Evaluation

1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products

By Daniel Dutton

2.  How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts.

3. What have you learned from your audience feedback?

Throughout this project I created and used various of surveys to help me throughout my planning, research and production stages. We also used social media to help aid this feedback by using programs like Skype to gain 1 to 1 feedback on our products, and we could also use Skype calls to get a large amount of number of people together to see that they think about our products. I also asked around my college for feedback and they told me what I could improve and I would be able to change it there and then. Teachers also helped me through feedback on my work.

I sent an email out to people i knew asking them to fill out a survey that is based on my media work.

Out of the people who answered 5 people said yes to say that they think my ancillaries and my trailer are part of the same project. I think this is a good result for me as i can tell that they all link together like real films and posters. Also this tells me that i shouldn't change anything about the layout or colour schemes of the media products as they can already tell they link together.

I firstly asked whether my magazine cover looked like an authentic magazine cover. I asked this because i wanted my magazine cover to be as good as it could, closely resembling a real magazine cover. From the results i think it was very accurate of a real magazine cover. although one person answered 'kind of'. Later on i asked what they would change about any of the media pieces so i will be able to find out what to change about the magazine cover and any other media pieces that they think may need changing. Therefore i think that my media pieces are acceptable.

I next asked if my movie poster looked like an authentic movie poster. From the results that i have gathered, i can tell that something needs to change about it as more people answered 'kind of'. Although 40% of people said yes which means i may not need to change a large amount of things on it, but enough so it looks more like an authentic movie poster.

Next i asked if my movie trailer looked like an authentic movie trailer. From the results i saw that my movie trailer looked quite authentic, although one person said 'kind of' which means that i will need to change some aspects of the trailer to make it look authentic enough.

Next I asked what I could possibly change about any of the media pieces.

I feel that the changes that we could make to the media pieces are very small changes. and that shows me that we did a good job on creating the media pieces to make them look authentic and professional. We got to this stage by researching a lot into magazine covers, posters and film trailers. Without this important in depth research into the genre of Horror and these different medias, we would of never have gotten to this stage of being able to create an effective magazine, poster and film trailer.

I then asked if our film trailer conveys the Horror Genre effectively. I looked a lot into the Horror genre to make sure that we got the sub genre as close as we could. This means that following any conventions we found in our research that link in with the Horror genre, which means that we could use the correct conventions in the right places so we could call the trailer a Horror genre. Also as you can see from the graph, our research discovered that our trailer did pretty well in conveying the Horror genre effectively, this means that we wont make any large changes to our production work.

In this question of the survey, I asked the participants to rate my media pieces out of 5. Out of all the responses I think I got a pretty good response of around 3.5 - 4 being the average score. Although with the lowest score being the poster, this may be the most that needs changing to increase its score. I feel like people like our media pieces and i am happy with this because we used our research to base all of our media pieces of.

4. How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?
