Audience Research

I have used the website Survey Monkey to conduct research on the Horror Genre. I have used this because i an get the questionnaire to a lot of people via email. Also i have used this because i can look at the results easily and make decisions of these.

Hopefully from this questionnaire we will be able to decide what type of sub-genre of Horror we want to do and also help us plan the characters in the film and what they look like (we will extract answers from question 10 to help us do this.)

As we can see from the results from question 9, that the age range that we think Horror movies should attract would be mainly 15+ and below 40 year olds. These people would usually fit into A3 and AA in the ITV Sales Demographics. This is because i think that from the research we see it fits these sections very well.

We have asked our audience on ideas for a title for the film. We want it to link in with the theme of a psychopath as we think we will make our film the sub genre of Horror Psychopath.

We asked our audience via the questionnaire on what type of sub-genre of Horror they liked best. We found that Comedy Horror is the most popular, although we are not going to do this because comedy is a hard genre to present in a film. Next is Action Horror and e are not going to do this sub-genre because it may also be hard to produce. Next is the Psychological Horror and Slasher Horror. We are thinking of going with this sub-genre because it would be interesting and easier to produce then a comedy Horror. Although we may think of adding more Slasher aspects into our film as it is as popular as Psychological Horror.

At first we thought to do our trailer in a house, as it is stereotypical for a psychological Horror to be set in a house where there would be a vulnerable victim for him/her. Through our research we saw that people also said that a house would be a good idea for a location. We are hoping to film it at a friends house, which we will make it look like a psychopath has been there.

Target Audience.

These audience profiles shows us that people mostly like to watch Horror film genres with their friend. This is maybe because they want to have fun whilst watching them and/or get scared with their friends. The age of the target market are between the age of 15 and 18, which is usually the certificate of horror movies. Our target audience  may also watch horror movie by themselves as they may want to scare themselves.
